An ambitious entrepreneur, Upul commenced his career at the State Plantations Corporation as a tea planter. Pursuing his studies overseas, he obtained a Business Management and Commerce degree from Kansai University, Japan. It nurtured his keen interest in business strategy, creative problem solving, understanding the importance of teamwork and leading teams to achieve success in business. During his time in Japan, Upul was greatly inspired by Japanese culture and work ethic. Returning to his motherland, Upul launched his own business focussing on general trading and construction – establishing Hanshin Lanka (Pvt) Ltd in 1998. Driven by Hanshin’s success in Sri Lanka, in 2005, Upul expanded Hanshin’s operations to Singapore.
Broadening his vision for Hanshin and heading for new horizons in the shipping and logistics sector, Upul serves at the helm as the Founder/Chairman of Hanshin Shipping & Logistics (Pvt) Ltd.
